Daterie — the date shop · Effective August 14, 2026
1. Who we are
Daterie is a two-person date-planning app: one shared weekly menu of date ideas for you and your partner. It is operated from the United States. Questions, requests, or complaints: shop@daterie.app.
2. What we collect, and how
- Your Google identity — name and email, when you sign in with Google. Sign-in is invite-only.
- Google Calendar availability — with your consent, we read when you are busy or free, and we create and manage the calendar events for dates you book. Details in section 4.
- The home address you type— your couple’s “home base,” used to plan dates near you. We never request your device’s location.
- Your answers and activity — onboarding preferences (including two short free-text answers), swipes on date cards, ratings, notes, and dates you log yourself.
- A push token — so the app can ring the bell when a fresh menu or a reveal is ready, if you allow notifications.
- Crash reports — scrubbed of personal information (no account identity, no request data) so we can fix what breaks.
Just as important, what we do not collect: no device location, no contacts, no photos, no analytics or behavioral tracking, no advertising identifiers. We never sell data, to anyone, for any purpose.
3. How we use it
- Build your couple’s weekly date menu.
- Find times when you are both actually free.
- Put dates you book on both partners’ calendars.
- Send the notifications you enabled.
- Keep the app working (crash reports, spend limits).
Nothing else. There is no advertising, profiling, or resale of any kind.
4. Google user data and Limited Use
Daterie’s use and transfer to any other app of information received from Google APIs will adhere to the Google API Services User Data Policy, including the Limited Use requirements.
Specifically:
- We read your calendar’s busy/free information and check for named all-day commitments so we only propose dates when both of you are free. We never store, log, or share your calendar’s event titles or contents. The only events we create or edit are the ones Daterie itself books.
- Calendar data is never used for advertising, never sold, and never used to train AI models. No human reads it except with your explicit permission, or where necessary for security or legal compliance.
- The Google tokens we hold are encrypted at rest, with the key held outside the database.
- You can revoke Daterie’s access at any time at myaccount.google.com/permissions — the app degrades gracefully and tells you what stopped working.
5. AI processing
To plan and compose your weekly menu, your preference answers, free-text wishes, past date titles, home area, and coarse availability windows are processed by Google’s Gemini API. Before anything is sent, your data is anonymized: partners appear as “Partner 1” and “Partner 2,” with no names, no emails, and never any calendar event contents. We use a paid API tier that does not use your data to train models. Your answers are never shown to your partner.
6. Third parties
Each of these processes data only to provide their service to us, under terms that protect your data at least as strongly as this policy:
- Google — sign-in, Calendar, Maps Platform (venue search, drive times, geocoding), and Gemini (AI planning, section 5).
- Sentry — crash reports, scrubbed of personal data.
- Expo — push-notification delivery and app updates. Notification copy never contains venue names.
- Vercel — application hosting.
- Neon — database hosting.
- U.S. National Weather Service — receives rounded coordinates only, for date-window forecasts.
No data brokers, no advertising partners. If you invite your partner, we process the email address you give us solely to address their invite; invites expire in 3 days.
7. Retention and deletion
- Account data: for as long as your account exists.
- Invites: expire within 3 days.
- Geocoding cache: at most 30 days.
- Push delivery receipts: about 7 days.
- AI planning logs: personal content purged after 90 days.
- Encrypted backups: cleared within 60 days.
Delete your account in the app: Settings → Delete my account. Deletion is immediate: your sign-in, calendar connection, answers, swipes, and ratings are permanently removed, and our access to your Google account is revoked. If your partner keeps using Daterie, the history you built together — booked dates, logged dates, past menus — remains part of their account; your private data does not. Dates already on your own Google Calendar belong to you and stay there. You can export everything first (Settings → Export my data), and you can also email shop@daterie.app to request erasure.
8. Security
All traffic is HTTPS. Google tokens are encrypted at rest. Every record is scoped to your couple and checked on every request. All API keys stay server-side — the app on your phone holds none.
9. Children
Daterie is not directed at children and is not for anyone under 13.
10. Changes
If this policy changes materially, we will say so in the app before the change takes effect, and this page always carries its effective date.
